Introduction

I received a letter indicating that I was denied residence at College Villas in Henderson, NV because of my rental history. I don't have much of a rental history. In December 2008, I  moved to a building called Knox Landing in Bloomington, MN, a low-income senior/disabled HUD Project 8 building. I lived there until April 2020. At that time, I moved to The Midtown Exchange Apartments in Minneapoolis, MN and in December 2020, I moved to live in a condominium  owned by Cornelius Shuda in the Sunrise Manor neighborhood of Las Vegas to wait out my spot on the College Villas waiting list.

This was intended to be a letter - handwriting on paper - when it started out, but there's so much more than words to share with you, so I decided to show you everything in blog format so you could see what I've seen.

I'm afraid this is going to be long, but I help it helps you understand why I'm here now.
I found out about College Villas when I was in Minneapolis looking for a new place to live and it answers your questions about my rental history.

I lived at Knox Landing Senior Subsidized Apartments in Bloomington, MN from December 2008 until April 2020. Before that I owned my own condo which I lost when I became unable to work due to serious brain damage. After I left Knox Landing, I moved to Midtown Exchange Apartments in Minneapolis, MN and then came to the Las Vegas valley expecting to move to College Villas when my name came up on the waiting list.

It's not much of a rental history, but it covers the last 15 years or so.

I've broken this up into sections in case there are only certain parts you are interested in. I've called them chapters and I've tried to be chronological in my notes as best as possible.

Here's the short answer:
I lived at Knox Landing Apartments for 11+ years. During my time there, I reported violations to HUD and Minnesota Housing on multiple occasions. This emboldened one person to take revenge, she was fired. I complained again and again. They kept getting in trouble. They don't like me. I've spoken to their collection agency. They say they may sue me, maybe not, but they won't communicate

The Midtown Exchange Apartments turned out to be a social and biological blight once I moved in. I notified management I planned on leaving as soon as I could from the beginning.. Then George Floyd was murdered down the street and things went wild in my life.

I contacted several resources and was told by Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid that the reason to break my lease would not be the filth, lack of security and drug use. Those were hard to prove, especially since I couldn't get security footage. Instead, they said the fact that their management knowing I had mental illness, knowing I had been recently beat and suffered a severe head injury, and knowing my neighbor was harassing me to the point of getting a restraining order, Midtown Exchange violated a portion of the Fair Housing Act, specifically a case relating to a property management company for having conditions such that the disabled person living in their unit could no longer live there due to the change and the property management company had to make good and failed to.

I'm in the process of breaking that lease using the legal case specified by Legal Aid. I am representing myself Pro Se.

Both things show on my credit record as collections.
